Analyzing Prototype 2

Having prototype two were exciting times again but we figured out pretty soon a bunch of small things we thought could be further improved.

  • The first was the bottle opener. We liked it but some of us felt annoyed by it most in the same way we had felt about the serrated edge on prototype one. The opener end was poking the hand. Not as bad as the serrated edge but still annoying.
  • Plus, when eating soups with this spork, soup stains used to stick inside the metal gap on the lower side of the spork. It made it pretty annoying to clean!

It turned out this particular point was something people were having mixed feelings about on other spoons and sporks in the world who add this metal gap.

Many spoons and sporks out there have gaps for a design effect but some people like the design while others get annoyed by the difficulty in cleaning up the stains after eating.

Still, even if it was clear we would eventually have to evolve this prototype, this was a good phase of our project: we had a chance to evaluate hands-on a few samples from a few of our factory partners and had a chance to determine who was using best polishing methods (best average surface roughness value), good quality titanium and other technical characteristics.
